Behring Hall of Mammals
Smithsonian Institution
National Museum of Natural History
Washington, D.C.

Meet and get to know your mammal relatives in their natural habitats — the theme of the new Behring Hall of Mammals – initiates the exploration of mammal families, convergence of species and the lost worlds of ancient mammals.

To create innovative spaces that would be both engaging and educational, exhibits were designed to be like modern theatre sets. The mammals are actors posed with minimal props, and are complemented with dramatic lighting and exciting multi-media technology. These contemporary displays contrast with the neo-classical interior in the National Museum of Natural History, which has undergone its largest restoration since 1910.
