The goal of the galleries is to depict ancient Egypt as a bright and thriving civilization in a soaring Mediterranean context, in contrast to their reputation as a death-obsessed people. The galleries are chronological and thematic multimedia experiences. They are organized around a battered wall evoking the monumental architecture of ancient Egypt and Nubia, which itself provides a place for the display of precious artifacts in sealed environments. The Nubia gallery is provided with its own introduction, historical chronology, icon models and daily life exhibits. It presents Nubia as a continuum, an African civilization, and a distinct society.
